19 Salisbury Crescent, Fitzroy North

No.19 Housing survey classified it as “An attractive and unusual house, good weatherboard” (August 1970). It was bought by the Housing Commission after March 1971, the actual date is unknown, at the end of August 1971 it was almost wretched by vandals. Taken within the block Church Street-Rae Street- Nicholson Street. Targeted by Housing Commission, Victoria for broad scale demolition and construction of high rise apartment blocks. This was opposed by residents, both tenants and owners and factories. This campaign was a turning point in public housing policy and practice in Victoria.
