Uxbridge House, 90 (now 98) Nicholson Street, Fitzroy. Residence of William Bates, built 1890 (or earlier). It was run as a private hospital between 1915 to 1926.
Little remains o the original property, but one thing that does is the brick wall shown above at the forefront of the photo. And below more recently. At the end of 2023, the residents of the Cairo flats are planning to dismantle and rebuild the wall as it has suffered subsidence and is no longer safe. They have being working closely with Heritage Groups to ensure that the wall will retain its heritage character.

A multiple unit dwelling project, the extensions of which would transform the appearance of the City. Set in extensive and well-kept lawns and gardens, the flats front to Nicholson Street. There are 37 flats and a cafe. Twenty years ago the site was occupied by a single old house of 14 rooms.
