Looking North: “Lauretta” 19 Brookes Crescent. Bought by the Housing Commission on 4 August 1970 for $6,000. Survey: ‘repairable weatherboard’. It was tenanted by an elderly widow who had lived there for nearly 30 years. Also visible is a Laneway and No. 1 Watkins Street to the right; part of a vacant block at No.17 to left; behind roof of 28-30 Salisbury Crescent and part roof of No 32 Salisbury Crescent. As of 2009: No. 21 and No. 23 (with revised numbering) seem to be the only Brookes Crescent houses still surviving. All 24 houses in the Crescent were rated “sound” or “repairable in the surveys.
