Garryowen Lane, Fitzroy

The lane behind the Garryowen Park in Leicester Street, Fitzroy was signposted in 2020. The naming of the lane comes from the naming of the Garryowen Park, which was named after Edmund Finn (1819-1898) who used the pen name of Garryowen when he chronicled society and events of early Melbourne.

Edmund ‘Garryowen’ Finn (1819-98) was a journalist and author who wrote many colourful descriptions of the life and people in early Melbourne.
