John William Baker, Evangelist of the Church of Christ lived here in 1919. He had been in the area for some time, though I am not sure whether he resided here throughout. He commenced as a Preacher for the Church of Christ, North Fitzroy in 1902, and was still there in May 1914 (The Herald, 22 May 1911)
I don’t know too much about him other than in 1914 he married a Myra Eileen Duffy, 22 years, who was going under the name of Myra Brooker to Leonard Harris McKenzie, a carrier, residing in Seacomb Street, North Fitzroy. The only problem with the marriage was that she was already married to John Duffy, a cordial manufacturer! (The Herald, 5 Feb 1914)
